Dear OBC Alumni and Friends,
We are very excited to now have a website, SpiritOfTheProphets.com, for OBC grads to use as a tool to keep up with old friends, find missionaries and evangelists, fill ministry positions, stay abreast of events at OBC, and rally our support for our alma mater. The Apostle Paul constantly prayed for his brethren and their ministries and was striving throughout his lifetime to keep in touch with them: “And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do” (Acts 15:36). Paul tried to encourage other preachers and Christian servants to stay in the fight, and we ought to do the same. Phone calls, e-mails, cards, letters, and the alumni website can help us accomplish this important responsibility. If we can keep our fellow graduates fired up, then the College should flourish as we send students their way, get involved in improvement programs, give financial support, and pray for its success. I know the staff members are encouraged by our involvement, and Pastor Tom Vineyard is excited to know that we are working with them to make our alma mater even better in these needy times. We are about encouragement. Our site is established for those who want to see the College thrive and is not intended as a debate site.
This website, and the Association, is being developed for you, and we encourage your input. Let us know how we can make it better. If you are having special events, getting married, having a new baby, starting a new church, headed for the mission field, or moving to a new place, let us know about it so we can rejoice with you. You can get the rest of us immediately on board with your prayer requests by sending an e-mail (hang nails and Aunt Martha’s sore toe excluded). If you need assistance in filling a position on your church or school staff, or if you need placement in a ministry, then please send a message, and we’ll try to help. The Association will be working together with the Scroll of the Prophets so we can share news of interest. Its success hinges on your involvement, so don’t be shy about communicating with us.
There are some who have probably moved and possibly lost contact with the College, so if you can pass the word along about the website and Association, we would like to get everyone on the mailing list who would like to part of this effort “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). Let’s get the team together!
“Alma mater” is Latin for “nourishing mother.” In modern times it is used of the college or university one has attended and sometimes is used to refer to a song about the college. Let us not forget the School that nourished us, nor the song we sang together, nor the bonds of friendship we formed there, and certainly not the LORD who led us to that place! It is the desire of the OBC Alumni Association, which we have named The Spirit of the Prophets, to keep the school spirit alive in every heart of every OBC graduate. Keep us updated, keep the fire burning, encourage one another, support the College, and stay in touch.
Sincerely in Christ,
Rick Brooks,
